OSHA finalizes protective equipment decision

CHICAGO – On Nov. 14, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration established a new rule clarifying the employer/employee responsibilities for payment on personal protective equipment, the National Marine Manufacturers Association said in a statement today. The final rule requires employers to pay for almost all PPE required by OSHA’s general industry, construction and maritime standards. http://www.boating-industry.com/output.

IBEX Mentoring Program kicks off
BROOKLIN, Maine – The IBEX Mentoring Program had its inaugural reception Oct. 9, the evening before IBEX, organizers said in a statement yesterday.

To date, 58 experienced marine professionals have volunteered their services to assist those new to the industry and 46 mentees have joined the program, according to organizers. It has been set up as a year-round program

Environmental Defense Welcomes EPA's Proposed Standards for Small Gas EngineToday Environmental Defense welcomed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s overdue proposal to clean up new, small engines and strongly encourages EPA to finalize these standards by the end of the year. Ozone pollution can contribute to reduced lung capacity, lung airway irritation and inflammation, asthma attacks, increased ER visits and admissions and increased mortality. This proposal covers small watercraft, lawn and garden equipment.
